Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 24, 2026
🔒 Short version: We don't collect your files. Every tool runs in your browser, and your data never reaches our servers. The longer version below covers cookies, advertising, and the small amount of data that third-party services may see.
1. Who we are
CSV Splitter Online ("we", "us", "our") is a free, browser-based toolkit for CSV, TSV, and Excel files, operated at csvsplitteronline.com. You can reach us at [email protected].
2. What we do NOT collect
Because every tool runs entirely in your browser, we cannot access:
- Files you process with any of our tools
- The contents of your CSV, TSV, or Excel data
- Personal data contained within your files
- Your name, email, IP address (beyond what third parties may see — see §5)
- Anything you type into any form field inside the tools
This is an architectural property, not a policy promise. You can verify it in your browser's developer tools.
3. How processing works
When you drop or select a file, it's read by your browser's built-in File API and handled by JavaScript running on your device. All splitting, merging, filtering, conversion, and validation happens locally. Output files are generated in your browser and downloaded directly — there is no server round-trip.
4. Cookies and local storage
We use your browser's localStorage (not cookies) to remember:
- Your theme preference (light / dark)
- Your tool settings, if you click "💾 Save settings" on any tool
- Your cookie / advertising consent choice
This data never leaves your browser. You can clear it at any time via your browser settings, or via the "🗑 Clear" button inside each tool.
5. Third-party services
Google Fonts
We load the DM Sans and DM Mono typefaces from Google Fonts. Google may log your IP address as part of serving these files. See Google's Privacy Policy. We do not use Google Analytics.
Google AdSense (when enabled)
We may display advertisements served by Google AdSense to fund the free tools. When AdSense is active:
- Google or its partners may set cookies on your browser for ad measurement and personalization
- Your IP address, browser, and coarse location are visible to Google
- None of your uploaded files are visible to Google — only your browsing context
If you're in the EU, UK, California, Brazil, or another jurisdiction with strict consent rules, we show a consent banner the first time you visit. Your options:
- Accept all — personalized ads are allowed
- Non-personalized ads only — ads shown but not tailored to you
- Decline — no ads are loaded at all
You can change your choice at any time — (re-opens the banner).
Error diagnostics (Sentry)
To detect and fix bugs quickly, we use Sentry, a third-party error-monitoring service hosted in the European Union. When a JavaScript error occurs in your browser, Sentry receives a stack trace, your browser version, and the page URL — never your file contents, file names, or any data from the files you process. IP addresses are not stored (sendDefaultPii: false). This is used solely for operational diagnostics. Data retention: 90 days.
Aggregate usage counts (Cloudflare Worker)
When you complete a tool action (split, merge, etc.), we store an anonymous daily count of the form {tool, action, date} on our own Cloudflare Worker at counter.csvsplitteronline.com. No file contents, file names, IP addresses, or identifiers of any kind are stored — only integer counters per tool per day. This is used only to verify each tool is working end-to-end for real users and to power the "files processed" counter on the homepage. Data retention: 90 days.
6. Do-Not-Track
We don't track you, so there's nothing for a DNT signal to stop. Third-party ads may or may not honor DNT — that's up to Google.
7. Your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, LGPD)
Because we hold no personal data about you, there's nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on your behalf. Any data that exists related to your use of this site is on your own device and you control it directly via browser settings.
For data that third parties (Google) may hold, contact them directly.
8. Children's privacy
This service is not directed at children under 13. Since we collect no personal data from anyone, this is satisfied by construction.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date. Material changes (new data collection, new third parties) will also trigger a re-prompt for cookie consent.
